What a week it has been for standing outside on the
field. And I don’t mean for playing
football!

The view we had of the eclipse. Not quite, but nearly total! |
To begin with, last Sunday, Uganda experienced its first
solar eclipse for 500 odd years. Not
that you’d have known, had you asked the average Ugandan. The sun being blotted out of the sky doesn’t
put food on the table, and it doesn’t pay the kids school fees! True, but it does show the wonders of God’s
creation and the amazing way the sun and moon appear to be exactly the same
size, yet are millions of miles apart!
It is also praiseworthy, that the moon only covers it for a short period
of time, and that the world isn’t thrown into permanent darkness. Praise God for His faithfulness in bringing
light into the world.

These Ugandans are a clever lot, you know! |

Ugandan flag, with crested crane. |
Then, we were graced with the presence of Uganda’s national bird! I don’t know if you’ve ever seen
the Ugandan flag, but there’s a funny looking bird in the middle of what looks
like two German flags, one on top of the other! Well, the bird, is a crested crane, and on Friday afternoon, we were
visited by 15 of them. It really is a
beautiful bird. See for yourself. In fact, there are many beautiful birds that
just drop by the garden each day, and I have thought about photographing some
and displaying them on the blog, but I am ashamed of my ignorance in not
knowing their names. If I get a bird
book, I might just try. Anyway, enjoy
the pictures.
